Future Tech: Opto Tabs
OVERVIEW
I was posed with the question: if any technology you could imagine existed, what problem could you solve?
I knew that I wanted to think outside of the idea of technology being ones and zeros encased in plastic and metal. I also wanted to challenge myself to move beyond the obvious ideas of time-travel and teleportation.
Brainstorming with some friends, I discover Sam* had dreamed of drastically simplifying what he felt is the burdensome and time-consuming act of eating and all the prep (shopping, cooking, cleaning) that goes along with it.
PROCESS
After discovering the pain points involved with the time and energy it takes to feed ourselves every day, I designed a product to alleviate them by stripping away all the time, hassle and mess of eating into a simple, dissolvable tab that keeps you optimally fit through the prospective future wonders of bio and chemical technology.

Now that I had a product- how to market it? I chose to call the product OPTO for its two-syllable simplicity and easy spelling. The "o" mimics the shape of the dissolvable tab, leading to the logo. Since the concept of the product is rather severe, I wanted a soft, happy, utopian color scheme.
TAKEAWAYS
This was one of those projects were it was easy to get lost in all the possibilities for design. It was important to set goals and define parameters to stay on track.
For example, using customer personas helped guide the design by defining customer groups and tailoring the design to their needs. From there, empathy maps could be created to further identify with the customer. Practices like these helped keep the design options in check.
